Driving license: EU citizens just need the European driving license. Non EU citizens must have an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Visa – Passport: European Union member-states and the citizens of the countries in the Economic European Area don’t need a Visa. Check this page for further information.
Border Crossing: Border crossing between Greece-Bulgaria and Romania-Bulgaria it’s easy. There is no control; you just show your passport or a valid EU ID. Border crossing from Serbia, FYROM and Turkey are also easy, but expect delays due the traffic.
Insurance: EU citizens just need a Green Card. For non EU citizens, make sure that your International Motor Insurance Card is valid for Bulgaria.
Time Zone: GMT +2
Banks – Credit Cards: ATMs can be found easily in big cities and tourist resorts and credits cards are widely accepted.
Fuel: Unleaded 95 costs about 0,89€ (12/2020). Credit cards are accepted in most fuel stations.
Lights: Mandatory 24h.
Equipment: Drivers and passengers must wear crash helmets.
Maximum Allowed Blood Alcohol Level: 0,05%
Speed Limits: 130 km/h (80 m/h) on motorways, 90 km/h (56 m/h) on other roads outside built-up areas, 50 km/h (31 m/h) in built-up areas
Fines: On the spot fines are charged for minor violations.
Tolls:A toll ticket valid for 10 days costs 10BGN (~5€). It can be bought at the borders, in banks or gas stations (except Petrol and Rompetrol).
